Summer in the Sierra

~ Preface ~

If you were to ask me last September when I'd be returning to the Sierra I probably wouldn't have been able to give you a straight answer. You see, it was during my twelve day Sierra Solitude trip last year that I had decided to move away from California to be closer to my family in Texas. I didn't regret the decision and I doubt if I ever will but I knew there would be some things that I would miss.

Even though my new life in Texas was beginning to take shape, I was beginning to feel a bit restless. I needed to get back to the Sierra and before long I had an idea that may get me back.

The plan was simple. Leave my job in Texas and return to California to work for my past employer of twelve years for the summer. Once there, I would use whatever spare time I had to continue my travels in the Sierra. Crazy? Perhaps, but one never knows if one never tries.

Yes, it was difficult leaving my family, traveling 1200 miles, and setting up my cot in what was going to be my home for the next few months. I even questioned myself whether or not I was doing the right thing. In the end, I just did what felt right and followed the path that was before me.

So here I am, one month into my summer "adventure" pecking this out from an empty office in California. And having just returned from a very productive five day solo in the Sierra with another four trips in the works, that popular phrase "you can't have your cake and eat it too" just isn't registering at this time in fact if things keep going as well as they are, I may just have to help myself to another slice!

Here's to an exciting summer in the Sierra!
